Most frequent questions and answers
A few things to consider when it comes to your interlocking. First and foremost, because of the heavy winters in Canada, it’s always good to keep an extra bag of polymeric sand at all times. As soon as winter is over, and you have a dry sunny day, apply sand over the whole pad to ensure the sand has been filled in all the cracks. Make sure you use a blower or a broom (to blow off any access sand). Then apply water to the surface, with the mist setting, and let it sit for 24 hours. The sand will turn into concrete once the water bonds with it.
Side Note: (It’s also good to use “Brick Stop” along the exterior of the pad)
The main thing is that as soon as you see a weed, remove it immediately.
Don’t cut the grass to short, leave it a little longer. Also, you can get weed killer spray and attack the weeds that way as well.
Grow a healthy lawn by properly fertilizing, liming, aerating, mowing, topdressing, overseeding, and watering.
Re-mulch every year in the spring and/or use a pre-emergent to cut back on weeding for the year. Define the landscape with a border, for decorative gravel metal edging is common, for mulch you can often simply use a shovel to edge the bed.
Site considerations range from the obvious, such as patterns of sun and shade, to the subtle, such as soil composition, adjacent conditions, and the watershed environment.
We recommend you use perennials, ones that grow back every year and need minimal attention. Some we love to use for clients are Hostas, Hydrengeas, Boxwoods, Grass plants, Cedars (any kind), Etc. (And of course, don’t forget the landscaping cloth and black mulch/River rock etc.)
